Whatever you have planned, it is prepared for everything and as flexible as you. The Golf Estate provides you with a lot of space, a dynamic design, a sporty engine and numerous driver assist systems.
When you look at the new Golf Estate, its LED daytime running lights and turn signals which are integrated into halogen headlights will immediately catch your eye, as does the bumper, which matches the colour of the car. Further highlights include the radiator grille and air intake grille, both in classic black.
The tail is equally impressive: from the boot lid with its integrated spoiler and the two-section bumper cover with divided LED tail lights to the integrated reflectors and black-grained diffuser. The stylish design is rounded off with a striking roof railing. This can be used to hold larger items, with a choice between the Trendline or Comfortline models, both of which come in black as standard. The Highline version, which is also available as an option for the Comfortline model, gleams in anodised silver.
The interior of the new Golf Estate invites you to sit down immediately and not get up again until you absolutely have to. This is thanks mainly to the generous proportions, which offer both front and rear occupants plenty of leg room. The vehicle interior is also distinguished by universally high-quality materials and a wide range of intelligent detailed solutions, which impress both in terms of appearance and haptics. These include, for example, the ergonomic seats, roomy luggage compartment and centre console, which is tilted slightly towards the driver and is extremely user-friendly thanks to its special ergonomic design, as well as the white illuminated switches.
The Golf Estate is available with optional LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED fog lights so you can enjoy a visible advantage. These are not only more economic than conventional halogen bulbs, but are also distinguished by their extensive light volume, long lifetime and a light spectrum that is similar to daylight.
The LED headlights with dipped and main beams, LED daytime running lights and cornering lights come as standard with the Highline equipment version. The automatic headlight range control that is also included as standard with the Highline equipment version for the Golf Estate adjusts the illumination of the road to light and weather conditions. A headlight washer system with water level warning lamp also makes sure that the lights can always shine clearly.
It’s up to you: whichever of the optional alloy wheels you choose is sure to emphasise the sportiness of your new Golf Estate. Choose from various sizes between 15 and 18 inches as well as a range of dynamic designs. You will also be spoilt for choice when it comes to the surface and colour of the wheel rims. Whether you prefer matte, anodised or diamond turned alloy wheels, your choice is bound to give your new Golf Estate a dynamic touch that further emphasises its striking design.
Our vehicles are equipped with summer tyres as standard. As of 4 December 2010 you are required by law in the Federal Republic of Germany to equip your vehicle with M+S tyres or all-weather tyres in wintry road conditions with black ice, packed snow, slush or icy patches. For more information, please contact your Volkswagen dealership.
Ready for the request show? The programme features two radios and two navigation systems, all of them perfectly equipped.
The standard Composition Colour radio has a 16.5 cm (6.5 inch) touch-sensitive colour screen that can also play music in both MP3 and WMA formats. It reads SD cards, receives FM radio and has four high-quality speakers.
The optional Composition Media radio comes with eight speakers. It includes all the functions and connection options of the model listed above, plus a USB port and a Bluetooth connection for mobile phones. Its 20.3 cm (8 inch) colour touchscreen also makes it especially convenient to use.
The optional Discover Media navigation system comes with a 20.3 cm (8 inch) colour touchscreen display. It also boasts eight speakers, FM radio, a CD drive that can also play music in MP3, AAC and WMA formats, two SD card slots, AUX-IN and USB ports and a Bluetooth connection for mobile phones.
For those who want even more, the optional Discover Pro navigation system offers innovative gesture control. This allows you to change from one radio station to another or change the system settings in your car, such as the intensity of the instrument lighting, with a single hand movement. It also has a 23.4 cm (9.2 inch) screen that is capable of displaying a clear 3D map. It also features eight speakers, FM radio, a CD drive that can also play music in MP3, AAC and WMA format, two SD card slots, AUX-IN and USB ports and a Bluetooth connection for mobile phones.
All of the systems mentioned above are also equipped with a diversity aerial, which ensures good reception even under difficult conditions.
Do you want to enjoy every nuance of your music with the purest bass and crystal-clear treble? If so, you should listen to the Dynaudio Excite sound system from Danish hi-fi specialists Dynaudio. Eight speakers specially designed for the interior of your car, a subwoofer and a digital 10-channel amplifier with 400 watts of output play the ideal soundtrack for every journey.
Digital Signal Processing (DSP) adjusts the sound emissions from every speaker according to its position in the car, so that you hear the sound as if you were in the ideal listening position every time. Whether you like your music loud or soft, and whether you prefer rock, electronic or classical tunes, you will end your journey more relaxed than you were at the start.
Never miss another call, while always keeping focused on the road. Two optional mobile phone interfaces make it easy and convenient to make phone calls while you drive. High-quality sound is assured, thanks to a digital speech processor, an integrated high-end microphone in the headliner and the vehicle's speakers. Connection to the external aerial ensures optimal reception even when signal is poor.
With the Comfort edition, you connect your mobile phone to the external aerial via an inductive (wireless) aerial connection in the centre console. This means you no longer need to buy matching mobile phone cradles. In the Business version, a phone call begun outside the car can also be transferred to the hands-free system via Bluetooth while the mobile phone remains in your pocket. The system can be operated by voice command, via the multifunction steering wheel or using the Infotainment system. Very easy – and exactly how you wish.
The Car-Net Guide & Inform service package is available on request with the Discover Media and Discover Pro Infotainment systems. It enables you to use current data from the Internet and find out in real time if for example there is a traffic jam forming somewhere, or which car park has free spaces. Using the point of interest search, you can discover worthwhile destinations such as hotels, restaurants or petrol stations.
The optional Car-Net App Connect function makes it possible for you to easily connect your smart phone with the optional radio system Composition Media or with the navigation systems Discover Media and Discover Pro which are also optionally available. In this way, selected apps can be operated on your mobile telephone via the touch screen. Your advantage is, however, not just in this simplified operation: numerous applications can process information made available by the vehicle in order to provide you with additional useful and entertaining functions.
Volkswagen provides a total of three interfaces to connect smart phones with a broad range of options: MirrorLink™, Android Auto™ from Google and Apple CarPlay™. At www.volkswagen.de/mobiltelefon you can check to see which of these named technologies is compatible with your smart phone. Please also note that some apps are not on offer for each of these three options and the availability of this technology can vary according to the country in question.
Keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front is reassuring while driving in traffic. Optional adaptive cruise control helps you to do just that.
ACC measures the proximity and speed of vehicles on the road ahead. In queues and traffic jams, the system combines with the optional DSG dual clutch gearbox to brake your Golf Estate to a stop and automatically move forward again shortly after. Within system limits, ACC can keep your car a safe distance from the vehicle in front at speeds of up to 210 km/h.
Sometimes the unexpected happens, and emergency braking is required. In these cases, the optional Front Assist area monitoring system can be useful. Within the system limits, you will receive a warning if the system detects a critical tailgating situation. In particularly critical situations, the system can also assist with braking or can even brake automatically to reduce the impact speed.
The City Emergency Braking system can intervene when you are driving at low speeds in city traffic, while Pedestrian Monitoring can detect, within the limits of the system, if for example a pedestrian steps onto the road suddenly. The assistance system provides relevant warnings, assists with braking or brakes automatically – always within the limits of the system. In the ideal case, this will prevent a collision or at least reduce its severity.
The optional Traffic Jam Assist uses proven functions such Adaptive Cruise Control ACC and lane keeping system Lane Assist to allow easy slow driving in traffic jams. Your Golf Estate will track the vehicle ahead and automatically operate the accelerator and brakes within the limits of the system. The vehicle is kept in lane.
The optional Emergency Assist system automatically engages when no driver activity can be detected, and there has been no response despite a warning. The system then tries to both prompt the driver and warn the passengers and other road users with brake jolts, acoustic warnings, the hazard warning lights and gentle steering movements. If the driver still does not take over control of the vehicle, the vehicle will be brought to a standstill in a controlled manner. This allows accidents to be prevented within the system limits.
Traffic Jam Assist and Emergency Assist are part of the driver assistance package.
Manoeuvring with a trailer can become a test of patience if you don’t have much practice. This is because the trailer doesn’t always react as you may expect – among other things, the steering is reversed. The steering angle is decisive for precise reversing, and the optional Trailer Assist trailer manoeuvring system will take care of steering for you. First select reverse gear, press the parking aid button and use the mirror adjustment knob to set the direction in which the trailer should be steered. Your Golf Estate will now steer automatically while you just need to take care of changing gear, accelerating and braking. This means you stay in control at all times.
If a car is approaching you from the rear and cannot be seen in your exterior or rear view mirror, it is in the dreaded blind spot. Before changing lanes, the trusty glance over the shoulder helps – and now, so does the optional blind spot sensor. From speeds of 15 km/h, the sensor can warn you by illuminating an LED icon on the exterior mirror of your Golf Estate. If you still switch on your turn signal, the light begins to flash brighter and more quickly and draw your attention to the vehicle in your blind spot.
In combination with the lane keeping system Lane Assist, the blind spot sensor can even use corrective steering intervention to warn you within the limits of the system before you change lanes.
For its part, the Rear Traffic Alert assists you when reversing out of a parking space, within the limits of the system. Sensors in the rear bumper monitor traffic passing at the rear of the vehicle. If another car, a cyclist or a pedestrian is approaching you from the side, you will be warned by means of an acoustic signal and an indication on the Infotainment system display. If you do not react in time, the system can mitigate or even prevent an imminent collision by effecting a braking intervention.
TDI engines are diesel engines with turbocharging and direct fuel injection using common rail technology. They are noted for their economy, drive and outstanding performance. They are also particularly quiet running, while their high torque means sporty handling is supported.
Under the bonnet of the Golf GTD Estate (Fuel consumption Golf GTD Estate, l/100 km: urban 5,7 - 5,5 /extra-urban 4,5 - 4,3 / combined 5,0 - 4,7; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 130 - 124; efficiency class: B*), lies a very powerful TDI engine, which can push the car to an impressive performance of 135 kW (184 HP) – further underlined by a torque of 380 Nm.
TSI petrol engines feature impressive performance and efficiency. You benefit from maximum torque even at low engine speeds. The combination of low displacement with a turbocharger and direct fuel injection creates a very even transmission of power in these powertrains. Downsizing technology is used to achieve this, allowing the engines to produce high performance despite relatively low displacement.
The TGI engine ((natural gas fuel consumption (CNG), kg/100 km: urban 4,8 - 4,4 / extra-urban 3,1 - 3,0 / combined 3,6 - 3,5; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 98 - 95; efficiency class: A+; fuel consumption petrol, l/100 km: urban 7,3 - 6,6 / extra-urban 4.6 / combined 5,6 - 5,3; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 127 - 122; efficiency class: A+*)) is suitable for use with cost-efficient natural gas as well as petrol. If both tanks are full, you can drive for an impressive total fuel range of up to 1,300 km. The natural gas tank is designed as a space-saving under-floor solution to ensure that the luggage compartment space is not reduced.
If you require less power during your journey, Active Cylinder Management will shut down two of the four cylinders. This reduces fuel consumption but does not affect the engine smoothness. Since this process occurs virtually imperceptibly, you can see that 2-cylinder mode is active on the multifunction display.
Optional 4MOTION four-wheel drive distributes the power to all four wheels as required. This prevents wheelspin and locking and helps your car gain traction on virtually any surface, that’s how 4Motion increases your comfort.
Driving a new Golf Estate will allow you to enjoy verve and economy rolled into one. But do you sometimes wish your car were a little bit sportier still? Or perhaps you’d like to save even more fuel? With optional driving profile selection, you can decide how you want your car to drive according to the situation and your personal needs. Choose your driving profile at the touch of a button, or by pressing the touchscreen of your Infotainment system. The powertrain, steering and, with the DSG dual clutch gearbox, the switching points are adjusted automatically.
For example, the ECO driving profile helps drivers to be environmentally conscious and save fuel whilst driving. To achieve this, it adapts the engine performance and activates the start/stop system if it is not already active, as well as other features. The driving profile also regulates the air conditioning and thermal management systems to optimise fuel and energy consumption. If you have opted for the DSG dual clutch gearbox, the mode also selects earlier switching points and activates energy-saving coasting as often as possible.
Of course, you are also free to enjoy the standard comfort settings – just select the NORMAL profile to do so. If, on the other hand, you want to drive in an especially sporty style or take on the challenges of a winding road, the SPORT profile is the perfect choice. INDIVIDUAL mode is especially flexible: this profile allows you to combine the individual adjustments as you wish and even save your preferred settings for the heater, air conditioning system and headlights.
The Golf Estate has ample space, whatever your plans – from a surfing trip on the coast to the weekly shopping trip to the supermarket. Thanks to its particularly low load sill and a height adjustable load floor in the luggage compartment, you can also load heavy objects with ease. The four fastening rings make it easy to secure the load.
Also, if you need even more space, the luggage compartment cover is easy to detach and stow away under the luggage compartment floor. The asymmetrically divided rear seat backrests, which can be folded down separately, come into their own when you need to stow bulky items. The centre armrest with load-through hatch comes as standard from the Comfortline equipment version upwards.
A glass roof allows more light to enter the vehicle interior, giving you a uniquely generous feeling of space – especially when you open the optional panoramic sliding sunroof. Kids in particular will love the breathtaking view.
The roof consists of two large glass panels, with an electric tilting and sliding function on the front panel. When the sun is too strong, you can cover the panoramic sliding sunroof completely at the touch of a button using the blind underneath.
Select your preferred equipment for your new Golf Estate from a range of leather and ArtVelours covers. The Vienna equipment truly is something special: the leather is perforated, and features contrasting colours.
Whichever version you choose, both driver and passenger will be spoiled with comfortable seats that offer good lateral support. Naturally, seat heating is also included. In addition, enjoy the feel of high-grip leather on the multifunction steering wheel and gear lever. From the Comfortline series upwards, the steering wheel is also heated – a real godsend on cold days.
Thanks to the optional Active Info Display, you can enjoy the advantages of an instrument cluster with a high-resolution 31 cm (12.3-inch) colour display. With various information profiles, you can decide which specific data are displayed in the instrument cluster in addition to the usual gauges such as the rev counter, speedometer and odometer.
You can select this information profile quickly and easily using the optional multifunction steering wheel: depending on your precise needs, you can access detailed Driving Data, for example, or show a visual display of your driver assistance systems. This means the display area can be even better used, because you can also show additional data within the tubes.
In the Discover Media Infotainment system, you can decide whether you would like to see the navigation map in the Active Info Display, or have the classic view on the system display. With Discover Pro, both display options are available simultaneously.
