Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*
Powerful and efficient, without being too obvious about it: the Golf GTD features sportiness, straight-lined authority and a clean design that does not need to be imposing to catch the eye.
Naturally, the design of the new Golf GTD (Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*) is inspired by the world of motorsports. The front, with its even slimmer headlights, the typical honeycomb structure of the radiator grille and the gleaming black air intake vents identify it as a worthy successor to the original GTD. A chrome trim strip extends from the radiator grille, with its GTD lettering, to above the compact headlights, emphasising the dynamic overall impression. This impression is further strengthened by the powerful-looking bumpers.
The sporty side profile is achieved through the broader side sills, which make the already lower Golf GTD appear to sit even closer to the tarmac, as well as through the GTD lettering and logo on the two front wings.
The rear also draws the eye, with its grained matte black diffuser and chrome exhaust pipes on the left, as well as the rear spoiler in the same colour as the body. The dark red LED tail light cluster and LED number plate light appear to their best advantage at night. The dark red LED tail light cluster and LED number plate light appear to their best advantage at night.
Pole position when it comes to atmosphere: even as you open the driver’s door, you will be wowed by the illuminated sill panel trim. As soon as you sit into the height-adjustable sports seats, which are equipped with seat-back pockets and Clark chequered seat covers, you will feel pure performance at your fingertips in the form of the flat-bottomed multifunction sports steering wheel in leather, with GTD inlay and gear knob in the classic golfball design.
As you drive, you will be able to see exactly how your vehicle is performing on the animated, colour instrument cluster screen, or enjoy looking at the dash panel with its GTD-specific instruments and the centre console, with its sporty inlays. The sporty feeling is completed by the brushed stainless steel pedal caps, which stand out with precise pressure points – only found elsewhere in racing cars.
(Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*)
The LED headlights make the most of the design of the new Golf GTD (Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*). They are energy-efficient and their light spectrum, being similar to that of daylight, is easier on your eyes. The headlight washer system (with washer fluid level warning lamp) also helps ensure you can see clearly.
The highlights of the light design also include the LED rear light cluster with sweeping indicators: an animated strip of lights that moves in the direction in which you are going to turn.
You can also add optional fog lights if you wish. These can help you to keep a good view of the road and other road users, even under challenging conditions. The optional integrated dynamic cornering light can help you to recognise obstacles on winding roads in good time.
The choice is yours: the range of wheels available for the Golf GTD (Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*) both make a statement and catch the eye. In designing the wheels, the focus was placed unambiguously on dynamism. The standard 17-inch Curitiba alloy wheel was designed specifically for the Golf GTD and, together with the 225/45 R 17 tyres, is synonymous with dynamic driving enjoyment, safety and a sense of substance. It positively gleams, as do the optional 18-inch Sevilla alloy wheel, or, if you prefer, the optional 19-inch Brescia and Santiago alloy wheels. The larger inner diameter gives these wheels an even lighter appearance and the contrasting black paint adds a particularly elegant touch. The wheels inevitably draw the eyes of the observer to the striking red brake callipers. Whichever option you go for – you will make a first-class choice.
Our vehicles are equipped with summer tyres as standard. As of 4 December 2010 you are required by law in the Federal Republic of Germany to equip your vehicle with M+S tyres or all-weather tyres in wintry road conditions with black ice, packed snow, slush or icy patches. For more information, please contact your Volkswagen dealership.
A touch-sensitive colour screen with a 16.5 cm (6.5 inch) diagonal is one of the highlights of the standard Composition Colour radio. Listen to FM radio or music in MP3 or WMA formats on the system’s four speakers. These music files can be played from an SD card.
The optional Composition Media radio has eight loudspeakers. It features a CD drive and comes with all the connection options of the radio listed above, plus a USB port and a Bluetooth connection for mobile phones. In addition, an attractive 20.3 cm (8 inch) colour touchscreen makes it especially convenient to operate.
Both devices are equipped with a diversity aerial, which ensures good reception even under difficult conditions.
You can choose from two optional navigation systems for your new Golf GTD (Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*). The Discover Media system comes with a 20.3 cm (8 inch) colour touchscreen display, eight speakers, FM radio, a CD drive, two SD card slots, AUX-IN and USB ports, a Bluetooth connection for mobile phones and free software updates.
For those who want even more, the optional Discover Pro navigation system offers innovative gesture control. This allows you to change from one radio station to another or change the system settings in your car, such as the intensity of the interior lighting, with a single hand movement. It also has a 23.4 cm (9.2 inch) screen that is capable of displaying a clear 3D map. It also features eight speakers, FM radio, a CD drive that can also play music in MP3, AAC and WMA format, two SD card slots, AUX-IN and USB ports and a Bluetooth connection for mobile phones.
Both devices are equipped with a diversity aerial, which ensures good reception even under difficult conditions.
The Car-Net Guide & Inform service package is available on request with the Discover Media and Discover Pro Infotainment systems. It enables you to use current data from the Internet and find out in real time if for example there is a traffic jam forming somewhere, or which car park has free spaces. Using the point of interest search, you can discover worthwhile destinations such as hotels, restaurants or petrol stations.
The optional Car-Net App Connect function makes it possible for you to easily connect your smart phone with the optional radio system Composition Media or with the navigation systems Discover Media and Discover Pro which are also optionally available. In this way, selected apps can be operated on your mobile telephone via the touch screen. Your advantage is, however, not just in this simplified operation: numerous applications can process information made available by the vehicle in order to provide you with additional useful and entertaining functions.
Volkswagen provides a total of three interfaces to connect smart phones with a broad range of options: MirrorLink™, Android Auto™ from Google and Apple CarPlay™. At www.volkswagen.de/mobiltelefon you can check to see which of these named technologies is compatible with your smart phone. Please also note that some apps are not on offer for each of these three options and the availability of this technology can vary according to the country in question.
Never miss another call, while always keeping focused on the road. Two optional mobile phone interfaces make it easy and convenient to make phone calls while you drive. High-quality sound is assured, thanks to a digital speech processor, an integrated high-end microphone in the headliner and the vehicle's speakers. Connection to the external aerial ensures optimal reception even when signal is poor.
With the Comfort edition, you connect your mobile phone to the external aerial via an inductive (wireless) aerial connection in the centre console. This means you no longer need to buy matching mobile phone cradles. In the Business version, a phone call begun outside the car can also be transferred to the hands-free system via Bluetooth while the mobile phone remains in your pocket. The system can be operated by voice command, via the multifunction steering wheel or using the Infotainment system. Very easy – and exactly how you wish.
Keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front is reassuring while driving in traffic. Optional adaptive cruise control helps you to do just that.
ACC measures the proximity and speed of vehicles on the road ahead. In queues and traffic jams, the system combines with the optional DSG dual clutch gearbox to brake your Golf GTD (Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*) to a stop and automatically move forward again shortly after. Within system limits, ACC can keep your car a safe distance from the vehicle in front at speeds of up to 210 km/h.
Sometimes the unexpected happens, and emergency braking is required. In these cases, the Front Assist area monitoring system can be useful. Within the system limits, you will receive a warning if the system detects a critical tailgating situation. In particularly critical situations, the system can also assist with braking or can even brake automatically to reduce the impact speed.
The City Emergency Braking system can intervene when you are driving at low speeds in city traffic, while Pedestrian Monitoring can detect, within the limits of the system, if for example a pedestrian steps onto the road suddenly. The assistance system provides relevant warnings, assists with braking or brakes automatically – always within the limits of the system. In the ideal case, this will prevent a collision or at least reduce its severity.
The optional Traffic Jam Assist uses proven functions such Adaptive Cruise Control ACC and lane keeping system Lane Assist to allow easy slow driving in traffic jams. Your Golf GTD (Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*) will track the vehicle ahead and automatically operate the accelerator and brakes within the limits of the system. The vehicle is kept in lane.
The optional Emergency Assist system automatically engages when no driver activity can be detected, and there has been no response despite a warning. The system then tries to both prompt the driver and warn the passengers and other road users with brake jolts, acoustic warnings, the hazard warning lights and gentle steering movements. If the driver still does not take over control of the vehicle, the vehicle will be brought to a standstill in a controlled manner. This allows accidents to be prevented within the system limits.
Traffic Jam Assist and Emergency Assist are part of the driver assistance package.
Have you ever been blinded by the main beam headlight of an oncoming car? Your vision is affected for a brief time because your eyes have been subjected to an extreme change between bright and dark. With the optional advanced main-beam control Dynamic Light Assist, you no longer need to constantly switch your main beam on and off. Within the limits of the system, when travelling in complete darkness and at speeds over 60 km/h, the main beam is not only switched on but also partially dimmed automatically for oncoming traffic. This means you can always use your main beam while driving and that the road ahead will always be illuminated as best possible.
This is enabled by a camera positioned in the area of the interior mirror. The camera can recognise vehicles ahead of you and oncoming traffic and transmits this information to the system. The beam is then switched off as appropriate by means of a masking system in the headlight.
If a car is approaching you from the rear and cannot be seen in your exterior or rear view mirror, it is in the dreaded blind spot. Before changing lanes, the trusty glance over the shoulder helps – and now, so does the optional blind spot sensor. From speeds of 15 km/h, the sensor can warn you by illuminating an LED icon on the exterior mirror of your Golf GTD (Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*). If you still switch on your turn signal, the light begins to flash brighter and more quickly and draw your attention to the vehicle in your blind spot.
In combination with the lane keeping system Lane Assist, the blind spot sensor can even use corrective steering intervention to warn you within the limits of the system before you change lanes.
For its part, the Rear Traffic Alert assists you when reversing out of a parking space, within the limits of the system. Sensors in the rear bumper monitor traffic passing at the rear of the vehicle. If another car, a cyclist or a pedestrian is approaching you from the side, you will be warned by means of an acoustic signal and an indication on the Infotainment system display. If you do not react in time, the system can mitigate or even prevent an imminent collision by effecting a braking intervention.
If you are looking for driving fun, you’re going to love the dynamism of the new Golf GTD (Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*). The 2.0 l TDI engine, with its full, exciting sound, delivers impressive performance of 135 kW (184 HP) – imposingly underlined with a torque of 380 Nm.
Who would have thought that a little phrase like electronic differential lock XDS could bring such a broad smile to your face? That’s exactly what happens with the Golf GTD (Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*). XDS as standard provides more dynamics, more traction and, above all, confidence in curves. For example, the one-sided, accurate brake pressure build makes the handling in curves even more sporty, faster and more precise. So it comes as no surprise that you feel yourself start to smile when you spot a curvy road ahead. Advanced progressive steering, which offers a high degree of control and comfort, offers additional support on winding roads. This feature increases driving dynamics through more direct steering. It is also beneficial in everyday use, since it reduces steering effort – for example, when parking.
To allow you to experience pure driving pleasure, the body of the Golf GTD (Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*) has been dropped by 15 millimetres and sports running gear with firmer springs, shock absorbers and stabilisers has been integrated into the vehicle. You will feel the result: handling is noticeably improved, for example on curves, and you get an especially direct driving feel, particularly if you have a sporty driving style. This allows you to get the most out of the power the car offers and still stay in control.
Do you want to enjoy every nuance of your music with the purest bass and crystal-clear treble? If so, you should listen to the Dynaudio Excite sound system from Danish hi-fi specialists Dynaudio. Eight speakers specially designed for the interior of your car, a subwoofer and a digital 10-channel amplifier with 400 watts of output play the ideal soundtrack for every journey.
Digital Signal Processing (DSP) adjusts the sound emissions from every speaker according to its position in the car, so that you hear the sound as if you were in the ideal listening position every time. Whether you like your music loud or soft, and whether you prefer rock, electronic or classical tunes, you will end your journey more relaxed than you were at the start.
An elegant solution: the optional Vienna leather equipment creates a comfortable atmosphere in your vehicle interior. This natural material comes in black with perforations revealing the contrasting colour Crystal Grey.
The perforated leather adorns the centre sections of the seats and the insides of the seat bolsters on both sports comfort seats in the front. These can not only be adjusted in terms of height and lumbar support, but are also heated and provide firm support and pleasant comfort. The driver’s seat is also available in an electrically adjusted version. The drawers under the front seats are also practical.
Thanks to the optional Active Info Display, you can enjoy the advantages of an instrument cluster with a high-resolution 31 cm (12.3-inch) colour display. With various information profiles, you can decide which specific data are displayed in the instrument cluster in addition to the usual gauges such as the rev counter, speedometer and odometer.
You can select this information profile quickly and easily using the multifunction steering wheel: depending on your precise needs, you can access detailed Driving Data, for example, or show a visual display of your driver assistance systems. This means the display area can be even better used, because you can also show additional data within the tubes.
In the Discover Media Infotainment system, you can decide whether you would like to see the navigation map in the Active Info Display, or have the classic view on the system display. With Discover Pro, both display options are available simultaneously.
These seats will allow you to sit in comfort and relaxation, even on longer journeys: The Golf GTD (Fuel consumption Golf GTD, l/100 km: urban 5,5 - 5,1 /extra-urban 4,4 - 4,0 /combined 4,7 - 4,4; CO2 emissions combined, g/km: 125 - 116; efficiency class: B - A*) is equipped with height-adjustable premium sport seats with lumbar support and seat-back pockets. This will not only appeal to your sense of beauty, but also to your back. The farbic seat covers are called Clark covers, are chequered and are embellished with grey decorative stitching. You can still be certain that you are sitting in a vehicle which is synonymous with quality, sportiness and suitability for everyday use. The asymmetrically divided, folding backrests of the rear seat bench are further evidence that this is the case.
